The walks can be completed in any time frame depending on your walking ability and requirements. Here are a few interesting walks nearby.

Hatfield Forest

Just south of Stansted airport this forest now preserved by the National Trust has 1049 acres of land to wander around. This former Royal forest that was once the hunting forest of Norman Kings hosts a range of wildlife and grazing animals. Open daily to visitors, with a café open during the warmer months, boats to row on the lake, bikes to hire and special events held at various times during the year.

Uttlesford Wildlife - Stansted Uttlesford Wildlife

A four mile countryside walk around Stansted, starting at the Stansted Mountfitchet Car Park. You will need a map for this walk as it takes you around various streets before heading off on the main part of this walk, with twist and turns along the way. This walk takes you right to the entrance of the Essex Wildlife Trust Aubrey Buxton Nature reserve where you can walk through the reserve or around it. An interested walk for all the family allowing you to take in all the nature reserve has to offer.

 

Bishops Stortford River Walk

Bishops Stortford River Walk - StanstedStarting at the town centre of Bishops Stortford by the riverside bridge you can make this walk as long or as short as you wish, turning back at any time that suits. The distance to the town of Sawbridgeworth is a five-mile relatively easy walk that winds along the River Stort. You will pass river boats, as well as undisturbed forest on the nearby slopes, and marsh land hosting many breeds of birds that use the area as a resting place during their migration. An interested walk that gives you lots of changing scenery.

Elsenham to Henham to Plegdon Green Walk

This walk starts by the Elsenham railway line before entering nearby farmland. You will continue on to the village of Henham passing ponds and a traditional British farm before passing a field of llamas that will be just as interested in you as you are in them. You will then move on through a wooded area and more farmland until you reach the village of Plegdon Green. Pledgon Green is a pleasant and traditional English village with quaint cottages. Wander through this village before the walk takes you back to farmland that will bring you back to your starting point of Elsenham. A pleasant country walk taking in all the birds, butterflies and flowers this area of England has to offer.
