Whilst staying at one of the Hotel Stansted hotels there are plenty of leisure places locally that are well worth taking time out to explore. The Stansted area has many leisure activities to enjoy whatever your needs, from swimming pools, to cinema’s, zoos, butterfly parks and discovery centres all for your enjoyment and entertainment. Many of these places are classed as some of the finest leisure activities in Britain.

Colchester ZooColchester Zoo - Near Stansted Airport

A must see Zoo in this area. Colchester is classed as one of the finest in Europe due to its ongoing development  programme and is only a short drive from Stansted Airport. Set over 60 acres you will see over 260 species of animals set amongst parkland and lakes. Four adventure play areas, a train and the chance to feed the giraffes and elephants. The zoo will provide you with a full fun day out for all the family.

Butterfly World

The Butterfly World Project is wonderland for all ages.  Focusing on educating their visitors on the life cycle of butterflies and their fragility, along with selling and giving advice on the best plants to grow to encourage butterflies into your garden. The butterfly house has a café and summer a BBQ option, play areas with bamboo tunnel, giant garden pots to climb through, and individual gardens displays are some of the attractions to see at this fun and educational venue.  This venue is developing all the time and so never gets boring.

The Priory Lido

Situated on the grounds of Ware Priory, The Priory Lido offers a heated 30m Main Pool with lifeguard.  Tennis courts and a basketball court are adjacent to this site, along with a refreshments kiosk offering hot and cold food and drinks.  A fun day out for all the family to enjoy in the summer heat.

Empire Cinema

Empire Cinema in Bishops Stortford is a venue within close proximity to Stansted airport and the local train station. Showing all the latest movies as they are released and with special deals available on some days why not take some time out to catch up on the latest films, make sure you get your popcorn and a drink, as film watching is not the same without it!

Great Notley Country Park

This discovery park covers 100 acres of open space. A variety of activities are available at the park including a fun water discovery park, various play areas for all ages, along with plenty of space to enjoy a picnic, as well as enough space to cycle, run or walk around this vast open space. If you are lucky the ice-cream van will be selling some fantastic ice-creams, otherwise the park has a small café for drinks, and other nibbles. A must visit for any family or explorer and will keep you entertained for most of the day.
